About

I'm Mateo Guzmán — a senior mobile engineer based in The Netherlands. Most of my last decade has been React Native: shipping apps to millions of users, contributing to the core project, and writing publicly about the gnarly performance and bundle-size problems that don't have easy answers.

Currently full-time at Bitvavo and a core contributor to facebook/react-native — Image caching for Android, the Java-to-Kotlin migration of the Android codebase, reducing the public Android API surface, and a few smaller things. On the side I maintain react-native-lz4 and react-native-fiesta, and I write about the trickier corners of the platform.

Originally from Medellín, Colombia. Outside work I read a lot about space exploration — which is partly why one of my personal projects is Xplorer, a planetary-exploration app with AI-generated planet textures. Traveling is the other thing that pulls me out of the keyboard; living in Europe makes that easy.

If anything here is useful or you'd like to compare notes on a hard problem, drop me a line.
